About This Image - Mario's Italian Ice Stand, in an old Italian neighborhood, has been a destination for generations of Chicagoans since 1954. They open seasonally May 1 and close on September 30 every year. On hot summer nights double parked cars scatter everywhere along the block making it difficult to drive at all. I wanted to capture the scene without leaving anyone identifiable. That's why I used a variety of effects to make this photograph in the style of a painting.
